Creating Outlook Express Identities
Creating Identities in Outlook
Express will allow multiple users to have a separate inbox for their
personal email accounts. It's also a great way to separate your email
accounts if you wish to store your email in separate places. To
create a new identity, complete the following steps:
- In Outlook Express, select File | Identities | Add
New Identity... from the menu at the top of the main window.
- This will open the New Indentity window.
Enter the name (or, if you have multiple identities for the same
name, a user name) of the new user under Type your name:.
- If you are interested in protecting your
email with a password, select Require a password.
Otherwise, leave the box unchecked.
- Click OK.
- You will
be prompted to switch identities. Select Yes to go to your new identity or No to stay in your current page.
Leave Messages on
Server in Outlook Express
Some users like to use Outlook
Express at home, but want to use webmail to view your email at work
or anywhere else on the Internet. This solution will work great if
you only want to view new mail while you are away from home. However,
some users need to be able to see old mail as well. With Outlook
Express, you can choose to leave a copy of your email on the server.
This will allow you to view your email in webmail at any time. The
only downside to this would occur if you filled up your email box
with more that 15MB (Megabytes) of mail. If you wish to leave a copy
of your messages on the server, complete the following steps:
- In Outlook Express, select Tools
| Accounts from the menu at the top of the main
window.
- This will open the Internet Accounts window.
Click on the Mail tab.
- Highlight the account you wish to modify and
select Properties.
- This will open the Properties window. Click
the Advanced tab and place a check in the leave
a copy on the server.
- Click the Apply button and
then OK.
- Close all open windows and return to your
inbox.
- From now on, all email will be stored on the
server for viewing in Webmail.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Update
On Friday, August 6, Microsoft
removed the final testing version of the long-awaited Service Pack 2
(SP2) for Windows XP operating system from their site. Service Packs
are bundled updates with security fixes and enhancements for software
on your computer. This Service Pack includes many new features such
as enhanced security controls for the Windows XP Firewall and
automatic updates. Although no official date has been launched,
Microsoft has begun preparations on their site for the release.
This release is being called the
biggest Service Pack release for any Microsoft operating systems.
Technical experts are saying that the Service Pack is closer to a
completely new version than an update, much like Windows 98 Second
Edition was to the original Windows 98. Microsoft will begin offering
this download from Windows Update and their site for FREE very soon.
If you are running Windows XP, Microsoft has setup a site to easily
prepare you for the upcoming SP2 release. To learn more about Service
Pack 2 and to learn how to prepare your Windows XP computer for the
upgrade, point your browser to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx.
