And now, on with the news...

mySpeed

Since the April 1st launch of mySpeed, we have received an overwhelming response for this product. Most of our customers have enjoyed the accelerated web navigation experience. However, we recognize that several of our customers had difficulties downloading the product or noticing a clear difference in download speeds. We appreciate ALL of your feedback. Due to the initial kinks and challenges in downloading the product, we will be extending the FREE trial through May 31st. We hope that this allows you a longer timeframe to experience the advantages of mySpeed.

The following questions regarding mySpeed are ones that have been frequently asked in the last weeks. Answers are provided, but please let us know if you need more details or have other questions.

How much will mySpeed cost after April 30th?
myVine has extended our FREE trial period through May 31st. After May 31st, mySpeed will cost no more than $2.00/month.

When downloading mySpeed, it asks for a username and password. Why won't our myVine username and password work?

We have found that your username must include "@myvine.com" to log you into the mySpeed download. Your password should be the same password that you use to authenticate your myVine account.

Why can't I download mySpeed?
If you have Norton Antivirus Software, you will need to disable Norton's email scan before installing mySpeed then re-enable Norton's email scan after the mySpeed download. If you do not have Norton Antivirus software and mySpeed still does not download, please do not hesitate to contact our customer support center at 1-888-922-3462.

There isn't a noticeable download speed difference with mySpeed. What actually gets accelerated with mySpeed?

How do you view secure pages when using mySpeed?

Does mySpeed accelerate email downloads?
Yes, mySpeed automatically accelerates your email traffic (POP3 and SMTP) for all popular email clients such as Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express and Netscape Mail. Other email clients should work as well. mySpeed will also accelerate web-based email programs such as web mail.

Tech Tips*

Please explain to me why I have to delete messages twice; secondly, why does it take three key strokes to delete one message from the deleted folder. If it is important to delete these again, why isn't there a "delete all" option?
- Shirly M.

By default, WebMail saves your deleted messages to give you a second chance to check over your mail before permanently removing it from the servers. This feature can be easily disabled. To disable the holding of deleted email, Open WebMail and click on the "Options" button. Then select the "General" link. Find the option that reads "Send deleted messages to 'Deleted Items' folder." Click the checkbox to uncheck the option. Mail will now be permanently removed immediately after deleting it from your inbox.

I love reading your monthly newsletter. It always has good information I use to keep my computer running well. In fact, I like to print out the newsletter and other web sites. The problem is, when I print, it doesn't print the background pictures. How can I make it print web sites with backgrounds?
- Bob T.

I'm glad you enjoy our eNewsletters! To enable background printing in Internet Explorer, you need to enable it in your "Internet Options" (by default this setting is disabled). Open Internet Explorer and click on the "Tools" menu. Then click on "Internet Options."  Inside the Internet Options control panel, click on the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to the Printing section. Place a checkmark in the box next to "Print background colors and images." You will now be able to print out full web pages and the eNewsletter.

Technology News

Microsoft Releases New Critical Patches for Windows.

Microsoft has released new critical patches for the popular Windows operating system family. Three of these critical updates will patch vulnerabilities which could potentially allow unauthorized access to your computer. No computer running any version of Windows is safe from these flaws. Microsoft has released patches for all supported operating systems from Windows 98 to its latest operating system, Windows XP.

Last August, the Blaster worm made its way around the Internet attacking vulnerable systems. A patch was available for over a month before the virus attacked. However, many users were unaware of the importance of the updates that Microsoft provides and failed to apply the patches in time.

Most security experts agree that there will likely be another virus which will attack these flaws. Some of these experts believe an attack could come within the next two weeks. Be sure to keep your Windows software up-to-date by periodically visiting the Windows Update site found at http://www.windowsupdate.com. Also, be sure you have an up-to-date virus scanner installed on your system at all times.

Macintosh OS X users aren't completely safe either. Last week, the first Trojan horse virus targeted the Apple iTunes music player on the Mac OS X platform. Many Macintosh users have a false sense of security as they feel their systems are immune from viruses. This is not true. All computers are susceptible to viruses. However, keeping your system and anti-virus software up-to-date will definitely make your computer experience more enjoyable!
